GREEN LINE TOURS – Booking Stazione Termini
Via Giovanni Amendola, 32 Roma
Think Italy – its history and culture.
Dream of Italy – the rolling landscapes of the Renaissance artists.
Imagine Italy — the food and the wine.
Combine it all in this tour that takes you off the beaten track to experience just a taste of Italy's flavors and all that is so essentially Italian in part of Tuscany and Umbria.
Departing Rome and heading north across the Tiber valley, we reach Cortona, situated on the top of a hill at 500 metres above sea level. Founded in the 8th century B.C., it boasts Etruscan origins, and still retains its medieval aspect.
More recently depicted in the Oscar winning film “La Vita è Bella", and described by American novelist Frances Mayes in “Under the Tuscan Sun”, Cortona is enjoying a renewed popularity. Here, we stroll through the historic centre, discovering it’s hidden corners and absorbing the atmosphere of this picturesque town.
After a drive along the shores of Trasimeno Lake, lunch will be served in a typical countryside restaurant. In the early afternoon, driving through the gentle hills of the Chianti region, we reach the hilltop town of Montepulciano. The deep ruby red wine flavors, “Vino Nobile”, of this town is famous all over the world. Here, we visit one of its oldest wine cellars, carved out of the tufo rock, to discover some of the secrets of the winemakers and of course to taste the final result.
After the wine tasting, before coming back to Rome, enjoy a bit of free time through the narrow alleys of the town discovering its main monuments and the enchanting panoramic views to the Toscan hills.
