The Vatican Museums are the museum center of the Vatican City, in Rome. Founded by Pope Julius II in the 16th century, they occupy a large part of the vast Belvedere courtyard and are considered one of the largest art collections in the world, since they exhibit the huge collection of works of art collected over the centuries by the popes: paintings, frescos, sculptures, tapestries, and more.
Every year, more than six and a half million visitors come from all over the world to visit this incredible art collection.
During our tour, with our professional Local Guide, you are going to explore some of the most famous points of attraction of these museums, such as: the Gallery of Candelabra, the Gallery of the Tapestries and the Gallery of the Geographical Maps; the Pio-Clementino Museum, the largest complex of the Vatican Museums, located in the Palazzetto del Belvedere, where you can admire ancient greek and roman sculptures; and of course we cannot miss the marvelous Sistine Chapel, where you will be breathless admiring some of the most famous frescoes in the world, first of all the Last Judgement by Michelangelo, or his beautiful decoration of the vault where he created over 300 figures on over 500 square meters of ceiling representing the stories of the old testament.
Finally, visit the imposing St. Peter’s Basilica with its wonderful decoration; murbles, paintings, frescos, sculptures, and important and famous masterpieces such as Michelangelo's Pietà and Bernini’s baldachin.
